Friday Fun with Videos

Hey Sweet Pants (to quote the Jerky Boys), here is a block of videos to keep your sanity while you work on Friday.

First up is Honey, yeah. This video was an eye opening experience back in the day. This must have been on TRL every day for the max. amount of time, due two a couple of things. First Mariah is smokin' in the video, second Eddie Griffin with Johnny B. who would have done that, o yeah Mariah cause she is on fihya.

Mariah Carey - Honey

Alright so I found this video today, it is pretty amazing, it is simple flash animation with a nice melodic song behind it. The story is amazing a bunch of demons try to attack vikings, so after a perfect description of an event staff, they Battle. Robot time...Watch and learn, cause knowledge is power.

Jason Forrest: "War Photographer"

This is probably one of the best things to enter my ocular cavities is a little while, yeah that is all there is to say about this video.

David Lee Roth - Just a Gigolo

I am pretty sure the first thing on my mind after I woke up was Matt Pinfield, you know the only VJ on MTV (other than Kurt Loader) who knew anything about music. He use to host a show called 120 minutes. Green Day appeared one time and talked about their videos, that discussion always made me think of this video with live dental footage.

Green Day - Geek Stink Breath

Duck walk. White Girls in cages. Chuck Berry playing in a tiny cramped space. The all white audience. Plus it is an awesome performance.

This artical is pretty cool it is about

"Researchers at the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) have successfully embedded optoelectronic devices into a biocompatible contact lens. This achievement is a significant step toward enabling virtual head-up displays within the human eye, delivering visual aids to help vision-impaired individuals, or for incorporating biosensors directly on the surface of the eye, among many other possible applications."

Blinking Blue Lights

I am not sure who has noticed, but if you have driven through West philly since last monday you may have seen blinking blue lights on top of light post. Well you should get used to it, Philadelphia has hired unisys to install 250 camera throughout the city. These cameras are being placed on high crime corners throughout the city, there were 12 test camera launched in 2007. You may have noticed it on the corner of Broad and Erie.

"The cameras will capture images and send them via a secure wide area network to the city’s central monitoring facility staffed and managed by city personnel. An online storage system will maintain those images for forensic evaluation." .unisys.com November 19, 2007

Personally, they said this was announced last October or November but no one in Philadelphia seemed to know. Some people know me other do not, but each week i have a ton of odd magazines that come to my house. I recieved one that was called Government Video, talks about advancement in government technology, but real big on the cover was Philadelphia Under Surveillance. Here is a link to the article.

*Side note about video recording in the streets of Philly

Local Hardcore Punk band Paint it Black Played outside of Sailor Jerry's, for the world priemere of the doc about him. The concert took place on 13th and Sansom st in Center City Philadelphia. Here is some footage from the show.

Frankenfish!!!

I am sure many of you have heard about the Northern Snakehead (dubbed frankenfish), Philadelphia, has taken some new action in trying to stop these fish. By shocking the lake, therefore paralyzing the fish.

The Northern Snakehead fish, or ‘walking fish’, is a native of China that has been banned since it was imported to the United States because of it’s predator behavior. These fish are extremely aggressive, and even worse, a serious threat to area fish of all kinds. The Northern Snakehead fish has been discovered in local ponds and lakes, which is not good news. But.. did we mention they can walk? You won’t see them strolling along the riverbank, but instead slithering and springing. Creepy, right? They can go days without water, so once they finish eating fish from one pond they can saunter over to another pond. Experts fear that these fish will make it to the Delaware River and hit up other waterways, making this a big deal. To make matters worse, these fish are ugly, really really ugly.

Philadelphia’s Academy of Natural Science is making an effort to stop this demon fish before it’s too late. They have been conducting fish surveys in lakes and ponds of FDR Park, using electric shock to temporarily paralyze the fish for a couple minutes, count the different types of fish and then release them. Which has to be the coolest thing to see a pond full of fish be paralyzed and then snap back to life. Where can I find myself a fish-pond-shocker? So far an increasing amount of snakeheads have been discovered, and the scientists have yet to finish the shocking.

Here is the NBC10 video they they did on this shocking story...Snakehead Video

Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival

From the Japan American Soceity of Philadelphia:
http://www.jasgp.org/cherryblossomfestival/

Welcome to the world of the cherry blossoms (sakura). Few things in nature can equal their delicate beauty. Come celebrate it with us! For two exciting weeks, all of Philadelphia is in full bloom for Sakura Matsuri - the Cherry Blossom Festival.

The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia, or Sakura Matsuri as it is known in Japanese, is an initiative to encourage a better understanding of the cultural, social, and educational customs of Japan and the United States. Japan has been celebrating the beauty of the elegant pink cherry blossom for hundreds of years with picnics under the trees accompanied by traditional music and dance. The Festival also seeks to beautify the Philadelphia landscape by annually planting and maintaining 100 cherry trees in Fairmount Park. In the spring of 2007, the JASGP finished planting 1,000 cherry trees to supplement the 1,600 flowering trees donated by Japanese government as a gesture of friendship in 1926.

The 2008 Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival will take place from Saturday, April 5 to Saturday, April 19 -- be part of a centuries-old tradition as we bring together the best in Japanese art, cuisine, dance, fashion, flowers, music and much more.

Dozo, oide kudasai! We look forward to seeing you.

New Blog Site

A couple of people have recently commented that this really enjoy reading my blog, so I am going to expand. Some of you know, I love food made in Philadelphia so I started a new blog:

www.phillykevfood.blogspot.com

Check it out let me know what you think, there is also a link on the right side of the page.

I would like some help with this site because I want to capture the whole city. I am going to start out simple, with French fries and move on from there.

Eat it up Philly!

Crime Spotter

So in my early morning internet seaching, I have discovered this site called:

www.spotcrime.com/philadelphia

This site uses google maps to pin point local and national crime, so now you can look at this site and find out who was mugged on your corner or where car are being stolen from.

The only drawback that I see is that they are a little slow on the update, I looked this morning and they only had till March 25th on the map.

I have always thought that a neighborhood crime website was an amazing idea, because it lets everyone in the area know wahts going on. In a way bringing back an online neighborhood watch, which in this day and age is an easy thing to do. (Hell i spend hours online each day.)

Give it a look see, comment back on your feelings about the site.
