Alright so have you ever asked yourselves, how sites like facebook and myspace make money. Well as you know most sites put up ads and have links to other sites; to check out their latest product or sell you some other sort of ware. Well, this got me thinking about Twitter, i personally do not have a Twitter account and it was mainly because i did not understand what it was, now I know. Twitter is a money making machine, do you want to know why...read on.
Unlike face book or myspace, who generate revenue from selling ad space on their site which generates traffic for other sites. Twitter may actually share your personal information with third parties. Don't believe me huh, well I am not sure about everyone else, but I sometimes read the privacy policy before I sign up for any site on the net. This is straight off the Twitter web site.
Service Providers/ We engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to us, including, without limitation, hosting and maintenance, customer relationship, database storage and management, and direct marketing campaigns. We will share your personally identifiable information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these functions and provide such services, and only pursuant to binding contractual obligations requiring such third parties to maintain the privacy and security of your data.
Twitter Privacy
I figure I should let those of you who ask me, "why I have not signed up for a Twitter account?", know what they are actually doing by having a Twitter account. Still don't want to cancel your Twitter account after reading that last piece of information, well here is a little more info for ya.
Compliance with Laws and Law Enforcement/ Twitter cooperates with government and law enforcement officials or private parties to enforce and comply with the law. We may disclose any information about you to government or law enforcement officials or private parties as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate to respond to claims, legal process (including subpoenas), to protect the property and rights of Twitter or a third party, the safety of the public or any person, to prevent or stop any illegal, unethical, or legally actionable activity, or to comply with the law.
Still with me?...This is also in the privacy statement. So say, after the phils lose a game you happen to twitter that you want to kill a certain member of the other team. Can this be used as evidence of conspiracy or malice?
Malice
–noun 1. desire to inflict injury, harm, or suffering on another, either because of a hostile impulse or out of deep-seated meanness: the malice and spite of a lifelong enemy.
Conspiracy
Law. an agreement by two or more persons to commit a crime, fraud, or other wrongful act.
Just as an Example...Want to hear more...
Business Transfers/ Twitter may sell, transfer or otherwise share some or all of its assets, including your personally identifiable information, in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets or in the event of bankruptcy. You will have the opportunity to opt out of any such transfer if the new entity's planned processing of your information differs materially from that set forth in this Privacy Policy.
Okay, little scenario okay so if a year down the road twitter sells to a large media group or something. Does said, "large media group" then get all your information?
Unless you missed your opportunity to opt out...

THE FACEBOOK/MYSPACE DEBATE
A couple people have talked to me saying well facebook and myspace do the same thing. No they do not, sites like Facebook and Myspace rely on outside advertisers for a part of thier revenue. Take alook at the differance in the privacy policies.
FACEBOOK
Facebook may use information in your profile without identifying you as an individual to third parties. We do this for purposes such as aggregating how many people in a network like a band or movie and personalizing advertisements and promotions so that we can provide you Facebook. We believe this benefits you. You can know more about the world around you and, where there are advertisements, they're more likely to be interesting to you. For example, if you put a favorite movie in your profile, we might serve you an advertisement highlighting a screening of a similar one in your town. But we don't tell the movie company who you are.
This is the short version...check the link for the full privacy policy.

MYSPACE
MySpace will only use the PII you provide under this Privacy Policy in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Policy. If MySpace obtains PII from a third party, such as a business partner, our use of that information is also governed by this Privacy Policy.
In order to locate other MySpace Members that you may already know in the physical world, MySpace allows Users to search for Members using Registration PII (i.e., full name or email address). MySpace also allows Users to browse for certain Profile Information in order to help connect with Members (i.e., schools and/or companies where Users may have attended or worked). MySpace may also enable Members to publicly display some Registration PII as an element of their Profile Information if they choose to do so via a profile setting under “Edit Profile.” Search engines may index the portion of a Member’s profile (including the Profile Information it contains) that is publicly displayed.
If you have consented to receive promotional materials (e.g., newsletters) or notifications from MySpace, MySpace may periodically use your email address to send you such materials related to the MySpace Services, as applicable. If you want to stop receiving such materials from MySpace, you can change your profile settings under “Account Settings,” or follow the unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email.
MySpace employees, agents and contractors must have a business reason to obtain access to your PII. MySpace may share your PII with those who help us manage or provide MySpace Services’ information activities (for example, message board administration, order fulfillment, statistical analyses, data processing), or with outside contractors, agents or sponsors who help us with the administration, judging and prize fulfillment aspects of contests, promotions and sweepstakes.
These outside contractors, agents or sponsors may temporarily store some information on their servers, but they may only use your PII to provide MySpace with a specific service and not for any other purpose. MySpace may also provide your PII to a third party in those instances where you have chosen to receive certain information and have been notified that the fulfillment of such a request requires the sharing of your PII. Spinoff - NASA is pretty sweet.
I figure I should update.
So I was very interested in NASA inventions and what I found out was pretty sweet, since the start of NASA they have had a division called spinoff in which they team up with other companies and scientist to develop new technologies.
Just a few things you use every day.
The scratch resistant lenses on your glasses
Invisaline Braces
Fluiddynamic Swimsuit, as used by Michael Phelps
"Spinoff is NASA's annual premier publication featuring successfully commercialized NASA technology. For more than 40 years, the NASA Innovative Partnerships Program has facilitated the transfer of NASA technology to the private sector, benefiting global competition and the economy. The resulting commercialization has contributed to the development of commercial products and services in the fields of health and medicine, industry, consumer goods, transportation, public safety, computer technology, and environmental resources. Since 1976, Spinoff has featured between 40 and 50 of these commercial products annually. Spinoff maintains a searchable database of every technology published since its inception. If you think you have the makings of a spinoff, please contact us through the contributor form."
Spinoff 2008
I think everyone should check this out, also if you want to read about other cool stuff NASA does check out:
Icing Research - Looks at on going icing conditions and research into how to overcome ice.
Cassani Mission - I have been following this mission since launch, check out some alien landscapes.
Let me know what you think.

This weeks comp. features:
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes (2008)
Jeff Beck - Jeff(2003)
Medeski, Matrin and Wood - (1996)
The Bug - London Zoo (2008)
Add N to (X) - Avant Hard (1999)
Lightning Bolt - Hyper Magic Mountain (2005)
______________________________________________________________________________________
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
This is the bands debut Album, after putting out two EP's in 2008. This album is actually meant to be listened to as a whole, so if you dig the songs please get the entire album. This is a Harmony Rich band, much like that of the Beach Boys, who have a sick sound that creates a serene environment within you mind.
Sun It Rises
Ragged Wood
He Doesn't Know Why
_____________________________________________________________________________________
The Bug - London Zoo
Once again not sure where I got this, I think I was looking for a Soul Coughing album of the same name. This was an amazing find tho, released on 2008 "The bug" is a project started by Kevin Martin in '96, heavy influence in dub and reggae, with a touch of electronica. No for everyone, but you should at least give it a chance. Each song has a featured artist, so feel free to check them out too.
Insane ft. Warrior Queen
Jah War ft. Flowdan
Skeng ft. Flowdan, Killa P
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Jeff Beck - Jeff
Yes, I am a little behind sometimes, but hell there is alot of music to listen to out there. Jeff Beck has been performing since the late 70's with the Jeff Beck band w/ Rod Stewart. Anyway, having just been introduced to this amazing guitarist, a couple of months ago, it wasn't till recently I actually sat down and listened to these albums. These are tracks off his 2003 release, his last studio album, he has released some live stuff since. Sit back, relax and enjoy.
So What
Hot Rod Honeymoon
JB's Blues
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Lightning Bolt
I do dig this band, I am not going to lie it took me a couple tries to understand where these guys were coming from. Not for everyone, very heavy guitar and sloppy drum solos, but the noise created is pretty stellar. Their touring history with bands such as Melt Banana and the Locust, may give you an impression of this bands sound. I would suggest starting off with Bizarro Zarro Land, and go from there.
Bizarro Zarro Land
2 Morro Morro Land
Birdy
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Medeski, Martin and Wood - Shack Man
Just what I thought, you wanted to hear some improv groove based jazz, me too. I picked one of their earlier albums, because it was the album I spent the most time with and enjoyed thoroughly. M,M & W, just recently finished an album with John Scofield, who I will now have to add to next weeks comp., so if you like this check out that album too. These song pretty much speak for themselves, curl up in a comfortable place and play these three tracks, but please get the whole album if you really enjoy it.
Strance of the Red Gator
Bubblehouse
Spy Kiss

Add N to (X)
To start this off I will let you know that this is a Post-Rock/Experimental band. I would suggest listing to "Steve's going to teach himself who's boss" to get a feel for the type of music. I found this band very interesting because they only use vintage synth and the proto-electronica devices crafted in the 1960s and '70s. This album came out in 1999, it took me a few albums to really fall in love with this one. I would ask you to stick with this album give it a couple of different chances while you are in different moods, it should fit one of them.

New to Me Vol.2
Hey here is another installment of New to You:
This week we have some interesting sounds from days of old, plus some new releases.
First up is: Benga - Diary of An Afro Warrior
I am not sure where or whom I got this artist from all I know is he is sick. Listen to Crunked Up; the beats are really solid. Sorry to those who do not enjoy electronica. This English dubstepper is well worth a listen.
1. Crunked Up
2. E Trips
3. Go Tell Them
D.O.C - No One Can do It Better
This is a throw back, because I am currently looking into old school hip hop. These are from DOC's debut album, produced by Dr. Dre. Due to a car accident he next album was not put out till 7 years later, but enjoy this young rapper from Texas first album.
1. Lend Me an Ear
2. Beautiful but Deadly
3. Portrait of a Masterpiece
Last Shadow Puppets - Age of Understatement
Once again this just appeared on my computer, this is a team up between Artic Monkeys and the Little Flames, inspired by Scott Walker and David Bowie. When I heard the first song I knew I was in for something good, a little different from the rest of the stuff on this comp. but awesome nonetheless. Enjoy.
1. Seperate and Even Deadly
2. Calm like You
3. Only the Truth
Lee "Scratch" Perry - Repentance
For those of you who are not familiar with dub, Perry is a master of the form. I got this album months ago, when I found out Andrew W.K. was producing this album, thought it was a great collaboration. The sound that is established is classic dub beat with a little electronica, which for me is an excellent progression of music. Give it a listen not for everyone. Also if you are interested in Lee Perry, get the album Super Ape, it will change your life. Also the song Santa Claus is based off of AWK club of the same name in NY.
1. Shine
2. War Dance
3. Santa Claus
Ratatat - FL3
Wasn't sure waht to expect from this album, but when it came on I was surrounded by wonderful beats that rode out the entire album. I enjoyed listening to this very much.
1. Falcon Job
2. Mirando
3. Gipsy Threat
Shystie - Diamond in the Dirt
This British female rapper, can spit like no one else I have ever heard, her beats are sometimes something to be desired. Take a listen to some tracks, this is off of her debut album from a couple of years ago. Also, if anyone has any suggestions on Hip Hop battles please comment. Can't get enough Shystie, listen to Lady Sovereign album Vertically Challenged she makes an appearance.
1. One Wish
2. Questions
3. Step Bac
Kool Keith - Return of Dr. Octagon
This is on here because he in coming on April 4th and want to get some people interested. I love most of this album there are some songs that don't quite make this a great album but I enjoy these three songs. quick story, "I was blasting this while stuck in traffic, I look to my left and the BF and GF where bumming to the the sounds coming out of my car. Stuck for about 20 mins we listened to just about the whole albums exchanged info and went on our ways." Anyways, enjoy I am trying to go to the show at Johnny Brenda's let me know.
1. Aliens
2. Trees
3. Perfect World
Ann Beretta - New Union...Old Glory
Asking who this is, well I figured punk had made almost no appearance on any of these comps. so I picked Ann Beretta, a band from Richmond VA. I would describe these guy as some what of a punk revival, but not quite badass. I enjoy thier tunes I hope you will to. Also if anyone has some new punk bands I should be listening to please pass them along.
1. Better Days
2. Nowhere Generation
3. Latchkey World
